The titles of my blogs have taken on a life of their own. I feel so lame if I name them things like “Discussion about X” or “Debate why Y tastes yummy” I’m not into that. Sooo, I’ve decided that each and every blog title shall (hopefully) be titled with a quote. Said quote may be relevant, it may not. It may have been said by myself, my roommate, another human being, maybe I read it, maybe I heard it in a movie..it’s really just a something that stands out to me. Just so you know, I have no further plans to explain myself as to the meanings behind each and every individual title…not that I was. But I’m just getting it off my chest, so that I don’t have to worry about it.
Todays quote sprang from a discussion dealing with the lack of hot water in the dorm bathroom. I hate it when there is no hot water. I was sooo going to take a shower in the morning so I hope it gets fixed by then. Anyways, hot water is essential to life. Sure when we drink water we like it to be chilled, or at the very least room temperature. I’ll tell you I can’t STAND drinking water at room temp or above. I prefer it cold, with or without ice. But if there is ice, you better believe i’m going to chew it.
But other uses for water as a society always require it to be warm or hott. Showering, cooking, cleaning, basically any use except for drinking. So why does the water heater have to die? I need that hott water, and I need it nice and toasty. Because I’ve got bottled water for the fridge, no need to worry there.
Saw a commercial yesterday when I was watching TV and trying to peg demographics. About how bottled water bottles are not biodegradable. Umm, newsflash I don’t believe ANY plastic is…why are we picking on the bottled water? Just cause it was a Brita commercial…Besides, some people re fill those bottles.
Anyways, review time.
NCIS- Several episodes, can’t tell you which ones. I find it hard to believe this show has a lot of new plot lines, it’s a Naval Crime show. Do they seriously expect us to believe that crime scenes within the Navy are THAT bad that they can keep killing people in horrible ways (often more than one per episode). The execution is good, I like the characters and that is a good sign. In order to have good TV you must have good characters. Based on the commercials I saw, I peg the demographic as women, 20s and 30s mostly but likely 40s too. Weird since it takes place on a Naval territory. Guess an actual Navy officer would know better.
Scrubs- Several episodes, can’t tell you which ones either. The episodes really meshed together pretty good, they flowed together so well I had a hard time figuring out where one stopped and the next began. However, this show is clearly marketted for a younger group, college to early 30s (tops). Mostly boys based on the commercials and the amount of Sex, sexual discussion and the crude sexual comedy in each episode. Somehow I think a hospital functions on something other than sex. But I think I know of other soap opera ish hospital shows that deal with who is sleeping with who and not who is healing who.
One thing I didn’t get…isn’t this show a comedy? Now I only watched three episodes…but I didn’t really think it was that funny. But then, I’m not a male and I don’t have a crass sense of humor…so maybe i’m just not in the demographic. Anyways, the lead actor was cute. That much it has going for it. I liked him as a character too, except for all the sex stuff again. But you can never win all around.
Stargate: The Ark of Truth (2008)- So being a Stargate fan who has watched SG-1 every friday night since it started airing on the SciFi Channel back in season…3 or 4…(since 1999 ish?)I basically had to watch this movie. Sg-1 ended after 10 years, and in order to close up the Ori story line we had a straight to DVD movie. There’s another one to follow, because the Stargate universe will never die. Now I love Stargate, and this movie was definately a Stargate production. It did not feel like a feature film, it felt like Stargate. How does a show feel like Stargate you ask? Watch ten seasons and two movies of it and you’ll understand.
So, issues with Stargate? Of course not! How could I possibly have issues with one of my favorite shows? Well, unfortunatly I did. First of all, an Ark of Truth…really? It felt…WAY too easy once the journey part was over. And please for the love of a Zat’nik’i'tel STOP BRINGING BACK THE REPLICATORS! Over and over and over and over and over and over and over. I get it, they replicate. Apparently they replicate themselves even when they are DEAD.
For people who have not followed the series-Althought this movie does have the option of starting you out with a nice little recap (see 10-15 minute nutshelling) of all the majore events in the last three seasons (sometimes further back) I’m not sure that this movie would be a good choice for you. Unless you have few problems following story line, then I wouldn’t risk it without at least watching the last three seasons of SG-1. I mean, there are a lot of things that they say “because of this…” and mention something that took an entire episode to happen (sometimes more) and don’t give it a second of further explaination. This happens a LOT, so if you haven’t followed the series, and you don’t have a Stargate trivia buff with you who can explain these things (and is willing to) I would avoid watching the movie cold turkey.
Film wise- Some cool fade/wipe/cut edit things..not sure what to call it, but I liked the way it looked. One scene had some really shakey camera work and it was driving me nuts. Good use of positive pull of the edges…but other than that, nothing really stood out to me, and I watched it twice.
All I really want to say, is I hope someone else wrote Stargate:Continuum
“Continuum” was written by Brad Wright and directed by Martin Wood, it stars a plethora of SG1 favorites: Richard Dean Anderson, Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge, Michael Shanks, Ben Browder, Claudia Black, with guest appearances by: Don S. Davis, William Devane, Cliff Simon, Jaqueline Samuda, Colin Cunningham…and more!
Woo-hoo!
Morjana
Reply- Having Wood direct it automatically redeems it over Ark of Truth. Thanks for the…cast list. I pretty much assumed all those guys would be there, can’t really do a Stargate movie without a lot of them.
I totally agree with your assessment of Ark. As a fan since the beginning, any Stargate is better than no Stargate. But, really, SG-1 ended after season 8. The last two seasons are – something else. To have Anderson replaced by Browder was a big step down, and following the closing of an awesome eight-year story was bound to be anti-climactic. Still, give me more!
I’m sorry I have to agree with Don. I would deem myself a fan of what is now being classified ‘classic’ SG1. I really do not like the Cameron Mitchell character he just comes across as too much of a try hard, he wants to be Jack. They should have come up with a new character rather than try to carry on Jack’s personality with another person.
Now, I have seen ‘Continuum’ (got a sneek peek preview at a convention) and whist it is far better than ‘Ark of Truth’, in which I wanted to run away and hide, and without spoilering anyone, I was thoroughly disappointed. In my opinion these movies are exactly where they belong, AFTER season 8! Where, to me, nothing exists.
It is a shame that they had to try so hard to produce such mediocre movies in an attempt to finish the series, but eh what can you do but pretend they don’t exist and watch re-runs of ‘the good old days’ lol
Anyway that’s my two-cents worth.
