“We Can’t be Dead! We have Cable!”

I’ve been sick all week long. Maybe not so sick that I can’t bring myself to write in a blog…but sick. I skipped classes and slept, a lot. Naturally, I also watched a lot of movies. That’s what people do when they get sick. So maybe I owe you some reviews, except how can I review a bunch of movies when I fell asleep on half of them? Now I normally don’t fall asleep on movies,  but somehow when you have a 101 fever, sleeping during a movie isn’t that big of a deal.

Owen Wilson Vs. Chris Tucker-Who makes a better co star for Jackie Chan?

My brother is laying on my floor as we debate a movie to watch, I suggested to him that we watch a movie with Jackie Chan and we narrowed it down to Rush hour (1 or 2) and Shanghai Noon(or Knights) So the real debate was Chris vs Owen. Who is better? My brother makes a point, Owen Wilson would not do in Chris’ role in the Rush Hour Series. But honestly I find both contrasting characters to Jackie Chan’s to be a little bit annoying. Chris Tucker’s James Carter is quite the loud mouthed egotistical obnoxious character. But I think he provides a good contrast to Jackie’s Detective Lee who is the more quite observant type.

However in Shanghai we have Owen Wilson’s Roy O’Bannon. The guy who takes all the credit but really does none of the work. But in the arc of the story line he eventually realizes his short comings and owns up to not being all he claims to be. I prefer this character to Chris Tucker’s character. He isn’t as irritating and he certainly grows more as a person.

When it comes down to the actual actors, I have a hard time speaking against Christ Tucker. I Imdb-ed the both of them and I can say of Chris Tuckers twelve credits, I’ve only seen three of them…and you guessed it those are all three of the Rush Hour movies.

Owen Wilson on the other hand has over 30 credits to his name, over a dozen of which I’ve heard of, more than half of those i’ve seen. Just going off these numbers you can see who is more well known and popular. I really don’t feel adequate to judge the better actor based on my lack of knowledge on the variety of characters that Chris Tucker has portrayed. But also when you think about it, neither actor can really go out for the same role, they have different ethnicities that are not going to be often desired when casting. So theres really no way to know which one of the two is better. However I’m tempted to go with Owen Wilson, I’ve seen him in more pictures, and I’d have to saw, I like him much better. Nicer to look at, funnier. Not as annoying…all around prefarble. So Jackie Chan’s stronger Co Star? Owen Wilson. Who ironically works often with Ben Stiler…

Anyways, movie reviews, as many as I was coherent for this past week.

Robin Hood (1973)- Disney movies, oh what fond memories do I have of you! But gone are the days when I can watch you and enjoy everymoment of it. I am an adult now, and while I may not act like it always, I do know it. So Robin Hood, where has my beloved Robin Hood gone? I remember this being a great movie. I loved it. Loved the characters, loved the choices as animals etc, the fun dialouge.

Wait, did I just say fun dialouge? How bout not. This movie, is one of the cheesiest movies when it comes to dialouge I’ve seen in a long time. Why don’t I recall this? I mean, literally every scene reeks of cheese. Now a little cheese I don’t mind…but seriously. The whole love arch, cheesey. The overall story line, lacking. Now don’t get me wrong, I still love this movie. I watched it tons of times as a kid, and I still love the look of a Fox as Robin Hood. Maybe I just love animated Foxes, as I heart The Fox and the Hound as well. But the animation screams old and even the editing.. like seriously, what is with the fad to black like every other scene? It makes no sense…

One thing I will say though, still heart the music. Disney does great with their music, and I found no fault in Robin Hood’s music.

On another subject, Why don’t Animated characters EVER change clothes? The ONLY time they do is when there is like a wedding, or some other formal event that requires them to change. Robin Hood, Aladdin, Cinderalla, Lilo and Stitch, pretty much all animated features I can think of. How hard is it to animate another color? I mean, if we are trying to immitate real life…I don’t see many live action films that do this unless it’s part of the story line. So what’s the deal?

My Fair Lady (1964)- So I know this movie is supposed to be fantastically awesome and stuff, having won 8 oscars and everything, but honestly there was sooooo much in this movie that didn’t need to be there. There was this whole huge song and dance number towards the end that had absolutely NOTHING to do with the plot. I don’t even think it could be classified as a B or a C or a D or an E plot, that is how pointless it was. So basically I think the story could have been better. The cinematography was great. I was shocked to see the film done in 2.35 aspect ratio, for the 60’s anyways. I really don’t know when that particular ratio came out but I just never thought it would be that early. Fashion in this movie…psycho Some of the outfits the ladies were wearing…just wow…we’re talking like outfits with hats larger then toddlers, shaped like boats and bearts and big spikey Christmas trees. Acting was fantastic. Audrey did an AMAZING job with all that accent fundom. Accents are amazing.

Shrek the Third (2007)- So this movie was pretty cute. New characters to the series, that was fun. I liked the new kid they brought in. Kinda sucked that the previews I had seen led up to the whole movie being about the fact that Shrek has kids, but they weren’t even really a major part. But man, an ending that was seriously lacking and lets not forget cheesey/ridiculous. Overall not the best of the Shrek movies, but not a horrible film.
