So my roommate is sick. It sounds like she is trying to cough up a lung..clearly not good. She seems resistant to any form of aid. In fact I had to compensate her computer and cell phone before I could get her to gargle with salt water…she didn’t believe it would help. Ha, I sooo won that.
I had laid out my afternoon for school work. seriously, I took about six books that i’m behind on my reading in (out of like…12) and dumped them on the floor at the base of our new(ish) sofa. We traded my roommate’s futon for a sofa that some guys on our brother floor had yesterday, it’s much more awesome. However I get all settled in and i’m doing my reading and who should walk in, but the girl who lives across the hall. She said she didn’t feel like doing homework and wanted to procrastinate…who am I to say no? So we popped in my netflix movie which I’ve had for over two weeks now. North by Northwest.
North by Northwest: So this is an old movie, Hitchcock. Long, but dude… Lots of fun stuff in this movie, the plot, fantastic. The actors (Cary Grant-apparently his real name was Archibald something -according to my History of Cinema text) did a great job. Lots of fun twists and it’s all spy stuff, you can’t really go wrong with spy stuff. It felt like the Bourne series may be loosely based off an idea from this movie…not the Bourne movies, the Bourne books, which rock more than the movies (and the movies rock a great deal) so you should see them. Anyways, the ending felt awfully abrupt, particularily after a two hour plus movie… but I still really enjoyed it.
Since I watched a movie I had to set up the universal remote that my dad gave me as the remote for our DVD player is broken(no it isn’t the batteries). But apparently Target products have a habit of not computing with universal remotes, (I wonder if a Target Universal Remote would have done the trick….) So while we did get it to finally work, not all the buttons do the right thing, for example Stop is actually pause and pause is play and play is stop….it’s a little trippy, and not all the buttons are messed up like that…but the point is Target doesn’t make a habit of making good products.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Target. It feels so much…cleaner than Wal-Mart. Plus, I like their clothes and layout better…but I guess not everything works out so well (DVD player, the futon we traded away etc).
Anyways, the academy awards were on Sunday, and I watched them, I was just too overwhelmed with homework at the time to say anything. I know that Daniel Day Lewis did a freaking amazing job (even though I hadn’t seen There Will Be Blood) but I still feel like Johnny Depp is never going to win. He does an amazing job everytime and always gets nomitnated with a group he just can’t win against…It’s rough. I haven’t seen many of the films nominated, I’m such a terrible film student…but hey, I have no cash. But everything/one that won seemed perfectly reasonable to me.
Ps-You should all see Atonement.
I loved Atonement. The comment for your other post was supposed to come here. You should delete it out of your other post because I haven’t seen either of the movies you mentioned there.
